AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY FUNDRAISER

Just 3 months ago, my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. I thought that being in the medical industry and asking so many questions about the illness, I would be mentally prepared for this beast of a disease!
Well, all the questioning and preparing, on the contrary, hasn’t put me any closer to understanding this sickness. I feel that because I’ve been an advocate for the fight against this disease, seen so many patients battle various forms of cancer, survive, walked many o’ mile on behalf of its’ research and drug development, and have been a Women’s Health Specialty Representative for so long, that, I would be PREPARED!
Well, that day has come….that this terrible disease would rear its’ face and look me dead in the eye! When I found out the news about my “Abuelita”, I was completely distraught. What can I do, to help my grandmother fight and deal with this terrible and debilitating disease? I did not want this woman that helped raise me, to suffer and endure this fight alone. Question, after question, after question about this disease, the only answer has been, “depending on the stage of you grandmothers' cancer, you just have to hope and pray that she can endure the treatment!
Well, treatment takes research and development, and in the U.S., this process is very costly. In order for us to find a cure, it takes raising awareness, and money in order for us to fight against diseases such as cancer, from taking the lives of the ones we love through suffering.

So please, come out this Saturday, and support the American Cancer Society Fundraiser that we at WINESTYLE EASTVALE will be hosting:

happy new year 2009!

it's amazing to see that this day not only marks a new year of 2009, but my 100th post. also, to add to that, it's also our 1 year anniversary since we decided to chronicle the opening of our wine lounge on the www community of bloggers.

amazing how time just flies!

not only that...but this also marks us going into the 8th month that we've been open for business. and, since the day we opened the shop we've been growing, changing and growing. i hope that we've been able to capture those changes, for others to get a perspective of the benefits and challenges one is faced with when they have a dream, and the pursuit of making things happen.

so many people, have made such an impact on victor and my life. there have been some generous members that have truly helped us make our lounge a better place. one member that stands out, that i just can't thank enough for what they've brought to victor and i behind the scenes are THE PACHOS.
they are just the most generous people. not only do they genuinely want us to succeed, but they have a vested interest in making the environment around them look and feel nice. they're so interested that, they've given us a new faucet for our sink because it was looking, as dan would say, "kind of ghetto". hehehe.
and, just to make the amiance condusive for the non-drinker, they gave us a coffee maker. yah! a coffee maker. so that we could sell a cup or two, to the non-drinker, in order for them to enjoy the night out with their significant other.

it's that amazing generosity, that can be overwhelming when your just starting out. but like someone told me, u've thanked them 10 times with hospitality and service. and that's what keeps me motivated when the next person leaves with a smile.

as i stay true to the chronicles, it is important for me to be as candid as possible, and help others relate to the ups & downs of opening of a business.

here's a true about the true {as my bro-in-law would say}...opening up a business is very intense on every level. we put so much faith in God, and making this work for the future of our family. there was no question, when we decided what business to start, and who would run it. v and i were on the same level. we knew, i could handle the "load" for a bit. in order for victor and i to give of ourselves to deliver #1 customer service and satisfaction, one of us would have to leave our careers behind. the obvious choice to running the shop would go to... "V". i had better, overall benefits, to sustain the family through this endeavour.

does the pressure of it all overwhelm me at times? absolutely.

i am a woman, i am sensitive and emotional. so, of course... we as the women that we r...we cry.

am i glad that i stayed working at my job? oh yah!

i love what i do. i get a fresh perspective on our business at hand because i am on the outside looking in, as do you.

i am the eyes and ears behind the operations. however, v and i have to be a team. what's better than to have your spouse, that's on your team, run and operate an establishment, based off what is seen from the "outside" perceptive. in other words, i tell him how to run the joint based off me coming in as a customer. i see operations the same way you, on the outside see it! i am not there at the shop everyday, so therefore i am not as immune to the surroundings, so i am the one to notice that a fixture isn't positioned right, or that the music isn't turned on.

granted, as it sounds, it is just that much of a potential "pain" for v. it's not all fun and games. sometimes one of us can lose an eye. but, we both have agreed on these accommodations before opening our doors, plus, the other eye is always on the prize. we can not second guess each other, because in that instant, someone else might benefit from the opportunity. this is what works for us. may not be for everyone.

also, what we've learned, is, that it's not all compromise.

let us be that first to admit, being in business with your spouse is not about compromise. it's SUBMISSION!

all the way around, anyway you slice it and dice it.... in order to make it work for you & your family's sake, it is:

SUBMISSION!

{ with submission comes an intense love! u'll know y, IFF you cross that bridge}

well, with all that said...that was then in 2008, and this is now

2009!

Salut! to u and yours as we embrace the year to come.

THE MADHATTER'S TEA PARTY!

"CERDA'S IN WINE-DERLAND"

here is our yearly tradition! because halloween is my favorite holiday...i like to incorporate it into our holiday christmas cards. i'm not to sure if the family likes it, especially mr.ian! but...it has proven to be a hit with my clients, and now we can share it with you all! technically, we shouldn't be celebrating this secular holiday, but...i am a witch at heart.

a good witch..."gaaaa-linda"

i do believe that this picture says it all in our family. we are definitely under a matriarchal roof, victor's always messing with ian...just messing around period!

and miss savannah is definitely always by my side in her own lil' world!

ian will look you in the face and tell you like it is...whether ya' like it or not! he's the moody one...but he loves dressing up just like i do...so that's why he's just in the best of moods in this pic!

hope you all enjoy it as much as we had fun doing it!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

it's halloween time!

i am just the biggest fan of halloween! i'm not sure if it's my theatre background, but i love the fact that we can be that character for the day, or week! i love entertaining, decorating, dressing up for the special occasions, and the invitation preparations. all of it...but!
the only but that i have.....is a big fat hairy but, and that is....i am terrified of it at the same time. {scream}
i scare myself with some of our decorations. it's almost as if, i psyche myself out! it is so dumb. i even know that our decorations are fake...but i still get scared walking through the house at night with our fake decorations! {hehehehehe}

i may just be
the cowardly lion

"I do believe in spooks. I do believe in spooks. I do, I do, I do, I do, I *do* believe in spooks,"

"Put 'em up, put 'em up! Which one of you first? I can fight you both together if you want. I can fight you with one paw tied behind my back. I can fight you standing on one foot. I can fight you with my eyes closed. Oh, pull an axe on me, eh? Sneaking up on me, eh? Why, I'll... Ruff! "
but when it's all said and done...it is by far my favorite time of the year and i can't wait for you all to see the pictures of some of the events we went to, or hosted.
it truly has been a halloween time to remember!

A little woman after my own heart!

PEDIATRIC ENTREPRENEURALISM?

{that's what i call it}
is this what this generation is moving towards?
As you see your children grow, you always wonder, am i a good enough role model for them? am i making the right decisions, for their well-being? did i take the right disciplinary actions, so that they don't make the same mistake twice? and did they learn from their mistakes?
well, i know it's a little early to determine because our daughter is only 12, but, we sure do like the company she has started and the group of girlz she has positioned to make their business a success!
she loves children, and enjoys to have her own little spending money, so she put together a group of girlz and named her business:
THE EASTVALE GIRLZ CLUB
What she did was, put together a team of girls. they all called a number of meeting to set up their rules and regulations. A creed, per say, in order to do babysitting on the weekend for those busy parents, that really do not have family near by, or have exhausted their family resources for the sake of a "date" or "night out".
So what they do is:
*babysitting
&
*dog walking

check out their website:

soon they all will be CPR certified, and guess what, they even have their own business cards, uniforms, and flyer's? it was all their idea.
watching the way they deal with "issues", i'm sure we can all get something out of this microcosm.

making the limelight, can be a lemon?

still staying true to the chronicles, i have to walk women through a moment in the life of the lime light.
now don't get me wrong, i'm all about the stage, and lights, camera, action...but, in business. hmmm! there is no class on balancing marriage and business in the "real" world. and the truth of the matter is...you will be tempted and put in some very compromising situations, when the can of whoop ass! isn't plan B anymore. there is nothing more sexy than watching your husband on a stage performing his "manly" duties of "The Provider". it's an awesome act of kindness, self sacrifice, etc.etc. when you have your own business, and you see you hubby working to make a future for your family and your children's future. but here's the deal, ladies...
strength!
a woman with a man in business or any power, or uniform power position...needs so much strength and self confidence, because, other woman who don't have that...want that. and will do anything to hurt your marriage, to to have a day in "your shoes". couple that with childhood insecurities that rear their ugly heads, when the opportunity arise, and when you least expect it, "bam!", your relationship is just put through "the TEST!"

plus, we, woman have to know that if you allow your man off the leash for to long, or turn around, in 1 second all hell can just break loose, if he is not properly trained, i mean that in the kindness way. seriously!.if the leash is to long, he can hang himself, or if you turn around at the wrong time, hungry predators, that come in all shapes and sizes, will try to lure him away...
for a kill.

and the smell of sweet success for another woman is...well, let's be honest...woman are a different breed. right? especially a driven woman. she will not stop, until she knows that she can get what she wants...at all cost!

with that said, i've been approached often about how great my husband is and how comfortable, he makes everyone feel and again, and again, how great he is!! and honestly, "i absolutely know!". also, if you look at the goals we set up prior to opening, customer service was and has always been our #1 priority. mi casa su casa, absolutely! did we want to set our place up to be a home away from home for our clients, you betcha'! but...all the marriage counseling and marriage retreats, would have never prepared a woman in business for what i am about to share:

i was approached by another woman that was pretty forward in asking me if she can invite my husband to her house for a "personal" house party to meet her "hollywood" friends and "by the way" maybe cook dinner. {rabbit+boiling water=?}then says to me, "since i've booked this event on a sunday night, i understand that it wouldn't be taking you {me} away from your kids all day, and you can spend the day with them while he {victor} comes over and enjoys the night with me and my friends, alone. are you ok with that? {looks at me} you wouldn't even have to pay for babysitting since it's on a weekend."
hmmm. i thought to myself, well, he's a grown man, "sure", i said, in the name of a business smile. if he's willing to take you up on the offer, that is entirely up to him. and that is the truth. luckily for me, we've been married long enough for him to know that, that entire scenario lifted "red flags" all over the place. we both laughed that night and said, "dude, is this an indecent proposal?" but, these are the winestyle chronicles, and i am giving you the wins and the loses, and i do have to toss this one up to one of our "wins"!

first of all, because our marriage is being tested and tempted everyday, and we are persevering through it with God in our marriage. and giving Him all the glory because we, as individual humans before, would not have handled these situations the way we do now. we, both, have come a long way. That's why, we both realized that no matter what it takes, we would not sacrifice our family time, nor our marriage for the sake of getting ahead. {greed}

if we are not making profit, money, or budget, we would always make time for those 2 priorities. you have to have faith that as long as we keep focus on God in our family and our marriage...He will allow us that time to glorify Him. our foundation is our family and our marriage, and we just can not rock the foundation that has allowed us to be here and sharing awesome moments with others that are just great people. so know that, even though we are in the limelight, things aren't always what they seem, but strength, faith, and prayer can get you through some crazy moments such as this one. i have to stay grounded knowing that if i would have given in to the temptation, chances are the outcome would have affected me and my family more than just my selfish high of sweeping the floor with this great woman's behind.

so when you ask me how i do it, or how do i stay so composed...remember, i breath and bleed just like everyone else. life is just like "turbo kickboxing", you can't get to comfortable because things can always change.

so with that said, you can not take each other for granted in a marriage, but one thing for sure always sign up for that marriage class, because it will save your relationship and keep you grounded when things get out of hand in your relationships.

no amount of money or fame is worth taking the the place of private quality time with the ones you love!!

diamonds, aluminum & tin celebration!

As we celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary, we thought that it would be cool to have 10 toast throughout the night up until 10 o'clock pm, as a tribute to our 10 years married. we were asked to share our "mile stones" of that year. It was pretty funny! Seriously, there were no surprises when coincidentally, the first 2 years were kind of bypassed. Hahaha! 3rd year literally is when we began to get it all together. Our 3rd year married it was 2001. That was when we moved from our apartment in La Habra, CA to a house in Whittier. our first house! As a result of our enjoyment, we baptized the house, and created another being. In 2002, our 4th year married, we had our little boy, vince "ian" cerda!

2003: 5th year: we came out to "moo-ville" or as the locals called the area "crown town" from whittier, ca to accommodate our growing family

2004: 6th year: both victor and I found ourselves on the unemployment line with a brand new house, lovely taxes and our very own "hoover flags".

2005: 7th year: we were so worried about all the myths in this year, that we decided to do something about it! We were not going to allow any ill feelings or bad thoughts to allow us to get through the 7th year. So, we went to las vegas, nv. We decided to make our 7th year…not the 7year-"itch". We decided to make it "Lucky 7"….big bucks…no whammies! And so, that year, craps in las vegas, was born.

2006: 8th year: we lost our jobs, and were living off unemployment.
2007: 9th year: we decided that we would not endure another year, of having someone dictate whether we could put food on the table, and vowed to each other that we would take a chance and start our own business. So, we looked into a few ventures! One of our really close friends introduced us to this franchise. They decided it wasn't right for them at the time, and so we asked their permission to move forward. And WINESTYLES was born.
2008: 10th year: we always wanted a venue to celebrate our love and marriage. We've always wanted to be witnesses of blessings we've received in our marriage and shout to everyone, our faith, church and God, is why our love for one another is so strong. Victor and I have endured some really tough times. So, to be able to share this win with everyone, is a moment that we have wanted because we know God is real and present in our marriage. So, here in this blog...we are celebrating the day a dream come true. It was 10 years ago July 25, victor and I found a great friendship, partnership & relationship. If it wasn't for God, and His blessings, we would not have been able to make this incredible day happen. We are truly grateful for everything. He has blessed us with. We have met some of the best personalities opening this business. However, we have not forgotten those that seen us at rock bottom. When we were at our low, those friends were there when we were just coming up in the world, and a friendship was all they cared about. Hanging out laughing…hahaha! That is the environment we wanted to create. A place that we could just pick up were we left off. Thanks to everyone's feed back, we have been able to do that!

OPUS ONE PHENOMENON

Victor has completed his collection! 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003
he has made it his personal goal to get his selection of OPUS ONE exclusive wines.
i know my husband is compulsive...but he made it his personal goal to continue a collection of bottles, and then there's another one, another one, and....i wonder if it stops! Are there any wine snobs out there that understand my drama?! well his drama? is it a mission to find these wines to continue a collection?
what in our world is going on? wow!
OPUS ONE! huh?

i am the WYNN-er!

so if you remember, awhile ago, we decided for victor's last hooray...before the store opens, we would take a trip to las vegas.
well, just some of the pictures are in and let me tell you, it's a disposable camera, so the shots aren't that clear, but for the most part....he still had fun. check it out.

this is victor fishing at lake mead, nv.

victor's first catch. old fisherman's tale says you should kiss your first catch. so, he did!

we stayed at the wynn las vegas, nv

it is my favorite !

getting closer to the actual, wynn! see the stratosphere hotel in the background.

it's gettn' closer...look....

the wynn is in sight.

our room was on the other side. facing the blvd.

this is victor's favorite part of the course. he fell in love, not only with his caddy...darin, poor guy was chasing balls all over that course; but also, with the waterfall on this course.

i asked him if he would do it again? he said,

"duh, of course."

i guess that means "jes in engles, and sometimes in espanish"

hopefully in the next 2 years, before they tear down the greens. the wynn will be building some more rooms, so the greens are coming out, and rooms are coming in!

for those of you that golf, we will be featured in the

"trilogy golf course" guide book in corona, ca.

bring that guide book in with you when you visit the shop...we have a surprise waiting for you!

mural, mural, on the wall...

who is the fairest of them all?

obviously, it's not me...i'm the barrel in this presentation.

{this is my family contribution to the mural.}

just a sneak peak at the mural that is sitting in the shop, waiting to be admired by our ever so supportive patrons.

it is getting so close to open, we are just beside ourselves with excitement! our dream is going to finally become a reality. can you imagine?

"if you dream hard enough, and the sky is the limit....then, all things are possible."

-priscilla cerda

here is victor, coming into the vineyard in his hot air balloon...

the wizard will see you now}

and, here is our boy ian. this is my knight in shining armor!

our boy is always playing in the water. he loves to see the rippling of the water. we think he's going to be an engineer or a pilot.

and, here is my girl savannah. she is my beautiful princess!

she is going to be the best nurturer. my thoughts, she is going to be the veterinarian. she has a big heart, she loves animals, kids, and adventure. if she can overcome her fear for blood, this girl is going to be unstoppable!

that's my girl!

and now that my mom has seen the mural...

it's here for you all that are part of our network to preview.

this was a gift to my mom, from our family, because we knew how much she wanted this in our shop!
